The Twenty Four Runes of the Elder Futhark

The image above is a scanned copy of a generic bone rune set. The blank rune included with the set has been intentionally omitted. The following is a list of my personal associations with the runes, informed by Rune lore and personal experience.

Fehu - Energy. Wealth. Ego, and the bullshit that can come with it.

Uruz - Strength, the above average ability and execution. Toughing it out.

Thurisaz - Tricky. Obstacles and the means to overcome them. Aggressive protection.

Ansuz - "Odin's rune." Perspective, intellectual consideration. Very mental.

Rad - The Journey. The road ahead and everything behind. Going the distance.

Ken - Skills and tools. Pragmatic, what you need to get it done.

Gebo - "The gift rune." Exchange, value, trade. Material and energetic.

Wunjo - Joy and success.

Hagal - Destruction. Things fall apart. Hard times.

Nyd - The minimum necessary. Need. No bullshit.

Isa - What is, manifestation. Bridging the gap, making it real. Solid.

Jera - Time. Seasons and cycles. Change that comes in time.

Eohl - Protection, connection. Responsibility. The divine.

Peorth - Circumstances. The container, the moment. Initiation.

Eihwaz - Death. Release, sacrifice. Done.

Sigel - Transformation. Power, speed, fire. Lightning.

Tiwaz - The ideal. The pragmatic taken beyond manifestation. The World Tree.

Beorc - Birch goddess. Healing, cool forest stream. Care, love, affection.

Eh - Union. External and internal, metaphor and reality. Marriage, sex.

Mannaz - Community or group of people. Public opinion. Collaboration.

Laguz - Water, flowing. Following momentum, non-action and not acting.

Ing - Seed, potential. The masculine principle within Mother Earth that makes the seed spring forth. Sex.

Daeg - Beyond paradox, beyond language. The Mystery, the Dreaming.

Othel - Ancestors, inheritance genetic and otherwise. The deep, true self past the current ego.
