The ever present option

No matter what is happening around you, you always have one, very powerful choice: you can turn inward toward your center. This is different than doing nothing at all, though it’s a great way to step into that space. When you are faced with the things that tempt you, you don’t have to say “yes” or “no” - you don’t have to say anything. You can just turn toward your center.
Sure, the social situation might require you to eventually say something, but you can put that off. People may feel a little put off, but if you’re otherwise acting positively and not acting excluded, chances are really good that everyone will forget about it in five minutes.
