Another interpretation…

Having gone through the day, today’s reading has another meaning to me:

The successes we acknowledge define our egos. If we recognize this and learn to apply the lesson, we have a powerful tool for molding the future.

Hm, this confuses me a little. Although maybe you’re putting in a piece to what’s been missing for me. I’ve been thinking a lot about where one’s ego comes from, and acknowledging one’s successes kinda makes sense. But how would that mold the future? By consciously choosing which successes we acknowledge? I guess I can only see that would affect the present, which would also mold the future, but indirectly. Does that make any sense?

It does make sense. What I was trying to get across is that because ego is comprised basically only of our positive feelings about ourselves, the successes we really care about generate a lot of that positive identification. But if that’s the case, we have the opportunity to design our egos based on things in which we truly care to take pride. Choosing to feel really good about something new may feel awkward and forced at first, but most things do, particularly in a conscious discipline like shamanism.

Got something to say?
